SARA FRANCES (HARTMAN) PARKER

Sara Frances ( Hartman) Parker, 92,  of Romney, WV  died Friday, July 23, 2010 at Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney, WV.  

Mrs. Parker was born on March 7, 1918 in Purgitsville, WV, the  eldest daughter of the late Osa and Lulu (Davy) Hartman.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford C. “Manny” Parker;  one son:  Clifford Alan Parker; four brothers:  Ernest Hartman, Glenn Hartman, Robert Hartman, and Thurman Hartman; and one sister:  Bessie Ours.

Mrs. Parker attended Daleville Academy, Roanoke, VA and graduated from Romney High School Class of 1936. During and after high school, she worked at the Green Palm Restaurant.  A graduate of Catherman’s Business School in Cumberland, MD, she worked for Globe Distributing Co. in Alexandria, VA until enlisting in the service.
Mrs. Parker was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army in the Women’s Army Corp in the South Pacific.  She served on the Hampshire County Democratic Executive Committee for many years and was county chairman the last ten years.
Mrs. Parker was a member of the American Legion Hampshire Post 91 and the VFW Wappocomo Post 1101 both of Romney.  She was one of the founding members of the Women’s Memorial Foundation.  She proudly attended the dedication of the Women’s Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery with her daughter, enjoying meeting women veterans of all ages.  A 4-H All-Star, Mrs. Parker volunteered time to her children’s 4-H clubs and was an active member of the Hampshire High Band Boosters.

Mrs. Parker is survived by:  one  Daughter, Anne Cameron Parker Qureshi and husband, Abdul Sattar Qureshi, MD of Romney, WV; four  brothers:  Donald Hartman and wife Genevieve, Philadelphia, PA,  Richard Hartman and wife, Shelvy, Moorefield, WV,   Floyd Hartman and Eddie Hartman and wife, Shirley,   of Purgitsville, WV; two  Sisters:  Lessie McGee, Westernport, MD, Nina Sherman and husband, John , Moorefield, WV;  four Sisters-in-law:  Genevieve Hartman, Burlington, WV,  Georgia Hartman, Romney, WV and Deanne Rohrbaugh and Louella Hartman, Moorefield, WV.  Also surviving are family friends, Susan, Rick, Carissa, and Serrina Lynch, Winchester, VA and Charlotte Baker, Stephens City, VA.   Sara is also survived by many nieces and nephews and three special cats: Bo Blue, Kissa Kat, and Scooby-Doo.

The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV on Monday, July 26, 2010 from 5-8 p.m.  A graveside service will be Tuesday, July 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney, WV with Pastor Brian Moreland officiating.   Graveside rites will be accorded by local veterans organizations.  Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney, WV.

 

MARY ALICE (RUDOLPH) HINES

Mary Alice (Rudolph) Hines, 101,  of Romney, WV, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney, WV.  She was born on October 26, 1908 in Intermont, WV the daughter of the late Joseph Floyd and Bertie (Fishel) Rudolph.  Mrs. Hines was preceded in death by her husband, Harold G. Hines, August 26, 1979; two brothers, George Nathan and Jacob Rudolph; and one sister, Ruby Rudolph.

Mrs. Hines was a talented seamstress having sewn for area people for many years.  She was the matriarch of a five generation family and will be greatly missed.  She is survived by:  two Sons:  Harold Glenn Hines and wife, Helen, Winchester, VA and Wayne R. Hines and wife, Helen, Romney, WV; one  Grandson, Steve Hines whom she raised as a son; two  Sisters:  Hazel Bothe, Las Angeles, CA and Grace Bull, Charlottesville, VA;  three Grandchildren:  JoAnn Sirbaugh, David Hines, and Sandra Joy Hockman; five Great Grandchildren:  Harley Hines, Lindsay Hines, Kayla Sirbaugh, Jason Hines, and T.L. Hockman; and two Great Great Grandchildren:  Caleb and Alayna Hines

The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Sunday from 5-7 pm.  The funeral service will be Monday, July 26, 2010 at 10:00 am at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV  with Pastor Brian Moreland officiating.  Interment  will be at Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney, WV.

BETTY JANE (HASTINGS) BELL

Betty Jane (Hastings) Bell,  87,  of Purgitsville, WV,  died Saturday, July 18, 2010 at her residence. She was born October 21, 1922 in Smithfield, PA the  daughter of the late Lewis P. and Della V. (Summers) Hastings.  Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.  Mrs. Bell was a member of the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, Purgitsville, WV.

She is survived by her husband, Mark W. Bell; three Daughters:  Beverly J. Jones and husband, Emmett P.  Jones Jr. of Falls Church, VA,  Ruth  E. Renner and husband, James of Greenwood, Indiana, and Patricia J. Cooper and husband, Michael of Fairborn, Ohio; five Grandchildren:  Joseph Murdock, Karen Murdock, Sarah Murdock, Charles Massey and Joel Massey; and 11 Great Grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, Purgitsville, WV on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 from 11:00 am  until 1:00 p.m. when  a memorial service will be held  with Rev. Dr.  Stephon Reed and Rev. Judi Stump officiating.  Interment  will be at a later date at Elijah High Cemetery, Purgitsville, WV.  Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV  25403.

ESTON LEO LAMBERT

Eston Leo Lambert,  80,  of Levels, WV,   passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, July 16, 2010.    He was born on February 24, 1930 in Ridgeley, WV, the  son of the late Charles Lester and Minnie  B.(Self) Lambert.  Eston was also preceded in death by one brother, Owen G. Lambert and two sisters, Delores  VanMeter Ketterman and Cheryl Frankinberry.  Eston was the only living sibling of his immediate family.

Eston will always be remembered as the greatest whistler ever heard by his loved ones.  He  enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and most of all being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather at many family gatherings. Eston and Ruby raised a large family of 10 children. He was a past employee of area orchards, National Fruit, Winchester, VA and the WV Department of Highways.

Surviving are his dedicated wife of 48 years,   Ruby Lee (Chilcott) Lambert; three  Sons:  Timmey L. Lambert and wife, Sonia, Stephens City, VA, John M. Lambert and wife Carrie, Augusta, WV, and James M. Lambert, Levels, WV; seven  Daughters:  Tina Ann Vasquez and husband, Kain, Stephens City, VA, Christina L. Boyer and husband Mike, Levels, WV, Pamela K. Shingleton and husband Mike, Augusta, WV, Patricia M. Boyer and husband Richard, Augusta, WV, Cindy L. Buttrum and husband Bob, Augusta, WV,                  Julie V. White and husband Manual, Augusta, WV, and Elizabeth R. Lambert, Green Spring, WV; 20 Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren; 6 nieces and 8 nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney on Sunday, July 18, 2010 from 6-8 p.m.

The funeral service will be Monday, July 19, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney  with the Rev. Dr.  Stephon Reed officiating.  Serving as Pall Bearers are Mike Boyer, Bob Buttrum, Mike Shingleton, Richard Boyer, Jimmey Lambert, and Jason Malcomb.  Interment  will be in Branch Mountain Cemetery, Three Churches, WV

Memorials may be made to the most loving, caring organization Hospice of the Panhandle, Inc. 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV  25403.

 

MARK ANTHONY STICKLEY.

Mark Anthony Stickley, 55, of Junction, WV  died Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney.   Mark was born on February 23, 1955 in Winchester, VA, the  son of Roger P. Stickley, Sr., Junction and the late Avery Lee (Blackburn) Gravius.  In addition to his mother, Mark was preceded in death by one sister, Tia E. Stickley. 

Mark was a graduate of Hampshire High School, Class of 1973.  He was employed by Hampshire County Department of Parks and Recreation as Supervisor of Maintenance for about 30 years.  Mark took great pride in keeping our parks beautiful for all to enjoy.  He was seen on a daily basis in and around Romney either working or attending  many community activities. Mark loved to ride his Harley. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.  His special love was his dog, Misty.  Also surviving  besides his father are:   his former wife, Karen Hott Stickley, Augusta, WV; one son:  Zebulon M. Stickley, Beckley, WV;  one daughter,  Kara R. Stickley, Points, WV;  one brother, Roger P. Stickley, Jr., Junction, WV and one sister,  Tracy L. Visconti, Martinsburg, WV.

The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV  on Thursday, July 15, 2010  from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.  Interment will be private. 

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hampshire County Parks and Recreation for the purpose of planting trees in our county parks and on the Court House grounds.  A plaque will be placed to indicate that the trees were planted in the memory of Mark.  Please send contributions to:

JOHN CHARLETON WILSON

John Charleton Wilson, 64, of Romney, WV  died Monday, July 5, 2010 at Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney, WV.   

John was born on September 19, 1945 in Oakland, MD, the  son of the late John and Leota (Arnold) Wilson.  He is survived by one brother, James Charleton Wilson and aunt, Blanche Arnold,  both of Romney, WV. A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.

SUSAN SHANNON EWERS SHIELDS

Susan Shannon Ewers Shields, 54,  of Romney, WV,   died Monday, June 28, 2010 at the WinchesterMedical Center, Winchester, VA.  She was born on April 4, l956 in Cumberland, MD, the  daughter of the late Randolph Loudoun and Gertrude “Trudee” (Shannon)  Ewers.  Besides her parents Susan was preceded in death by her brother, Randolph W. Ewers.

Susan was a graduate of Hampshire High School, Class of 1974 and  received  her degree from WVU.  She then interned for interior design and architecture in New York City, New York.  She also used her talents in Maryland, Virginia, Illinois, and Florida. Susan enjoyed fine art, antiques, and interior design with a humerous flair.  She had an appreciation for the natural beauty of the West Virginia mountains as well as the native animals.  Because of her open-mindedness and empathy for others, she often lent her ear and gave advice and guidance to various people.  Her goal was to have many different life experiences and she used storytelling, in great detail and with many hand gestures, to share those.   Susan was a member of the Jersey Mountain Ruritan Club and the Romney Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Ashley Lauren Ewers Shield, Romney, WV and two nieces, Sathira and Crystal Ewers, both of Romney, WV.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, WV.  with Pastor Barbara Johnson officiating.  A reception will follow at 12:00 noon at the Romney Presbyterian Church, W. Rosemary Lane, Romney, WV.  Interment  will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, WV.  Memorials may be made to the Susan Ewers Scholarship Fund, % of the Bank of Romney, E. Main St., Romney, WV 26757.

STEPHEN GRANT DENMARK

Stephen Grant Denmark, 58,  of Keyser, WV formerly of Romney, WV,  died at his residence on June 9, 2010 in Keyser, WV.  He was born on January 28, 1952 in Romney, WV, the  son of William Grant Denmark, MA and the late Anna Mae (Gardner) Denmark.  In addition to his mother, Stephen was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Clay Denmark.

Stephen was a graduate of Hampshire High School, Class of 1972.  He served in the U.S. Navy as a medic and later was employed at Hampshire Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Center as a CNA. He loved fishing, camping and dancing.  Stephen always had a smile on his face. He will be missed greatly by his family and everyone who knew him.

In addition to his father he is survived by: one Son:  Stephen Denmark Redman, Romney, WV, two  Daughters:  Tamara Denmark Bailey, Elkins, WV and Bambi Denitra Frazier, Washington, D.C.; three Brothers:  Terry Denmark, Hagerstown, MD, Raymond Denmark, Piedmont,  WV, and Billy Denmark, Cumberland, MD; five  Sisters:  Sheila Martinez, Romney, WV, Patricia Gutierrez, Grapevine, Texas, Toni Tenorio, Romney, WV, and Tena Holloman, Ahoskie, NC and Jennifer Denmark, Lowell, MA; 5 Grandchildren:  Yazmin, Racquel, Darby, Derek, and Serena and 17 nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV on Saturday, June 12, 2010 from 6-8 p.m.  The funeral service will be Sunday, June 13, at 1:00 p.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV  with Mr. Ted Heckert officiating.
