JOHNNY LEE FIELDS

Johnny Lee Fields, 63, of  Romney, WV, died  Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011 at the University of Pittsburgh Presbyterian Hospital, Oakland, PA.   He was born  June 4, 1947,  in Romney, WV, the son of the late  Arnold Lee Fields and Elsie Mae Taylor Fields. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by  a brother, Corey Bartlett.

Born and raised in Romney, moving to Cleveland, OH for a number of years and moving back to Romney in the late 1990’s,  Johnny was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Romney; a three-time Golden Glove winner in his boxing career and taught boxing in Cumberland, Md.  He enjoyed and excelled in all sports, and spent much of his retirement time caring for others.

He is survived by his mother, Elsie Mae Fields of Romney;  four sons:  Johnnie Fields and his wife Janie of Fairbanks, AK,  Johnny Fields and his friend Sherry of Lancaster, OH, Michael Fields of Cumberland, MD, Courtney Rice of Cleveland, OH; six daughters:  Crystal Bartlett of Chulavista, CA, Jonia Grubbs of Florida, Jonesha Wagoner of Omaha, NE,  Monica Fields of Cumberland, MD, Jonya Burns of Newport News, VA, and Christal Rice of Cleveland, OH; two Brothers;  Roy Fields of Romney, WV and Joseph Fields of Winchester, VA and one  sister; Gloria Henderson of Baltimore, MD and many grandchildren and family members.

The family will receive friends at Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV onThursday, January 6, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m..  Funeral services will be at Shaffer Funeral Home, Friday,  January 7, 2011 at 11 a.m.  with President James R. Showers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Romney, WV officiating.  Interment will be in  Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, Romney, WV.

VIRGINIA FAYE DEUEL

Virginia Faye Deuel, 77,  of Romney, WV, died  Monday, Jan. 3, 2011 at  home.  She was born on  October 2, 1933 in Campbell, MO, the daughter of the late  Harvey Thompson and Ruby Stacy Thompson.  She was also preceded in death by four siblings.

Faye moved to Romney from Columbia, MO in 1972 with her husband and son and was employed as a House Parent and Cheerleading Advisor at the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind.  She was particularly proud to have been selected to the West Virginia School for The Deaf Athletic Hall of Fame as a contributor.  Faye enjoyed being a part of, and active in, the many organizations that support the deaf population of the State of WV.  Her greatest joy was taking care of her son, Barry, and her husband John.

She is survived by her husband, John Robert Duel, Romney;  and her son Barry W. Deuel and wife Missi of Winchester, VA; three brothers, Ronnie, Jackie and Eugene Thompson all of Campbell, MO; and a granddaughter Regan Faye Deuel.

Memorial Services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Shaffer Funeral Home, 230 E. O. IRENE (MULLEDY) EVERETT

O. Irene (Mulledy) Everett, 87,  of Martinsburg, WV formerly of Romney, WV  departed this life January 8, 2011 surrounded by family at Care Haven Nursing Home, Martinsburg, WV where she had received wonderful care for the last 8 years.  Mrs. Everett was born June 19, 1923 in Hampshire County, WV, the  daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes (Barnes) Mulledy.    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Everett was preceded in death by her first husband, William N. Barnes in 1944 and her second husband of 57 years, Victor B. Everett in 2004.  She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Russell, Clarence, and Thomas Mulledy, Jr.; and three sisters, Margaret Barnes, Cletus Iser and Gladys Dobscha.

Mrs. Everett retired from the Hampshire County Board of Education where she was employed as a cook at the high school for many years.  She was a member of Branch Mountain United Methodist Church, Three Churches and was active in their Ladies Aid until her health declined.

She is survived by:  one daughter:  Gail Riggleman and husband, Bill, Martinsburg, WV: two  Granddaughters:  Amy Riggleman, Camp Hill, PA and Christy Aulabaugh and husband, Dennis, Hedgesville, WV; two  Great Grandsons:  Steven William and Jacob “Jake” Wayne Aulabaugh and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 11, 2011  from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV.  The funeral service will be Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV  with Pastor Kathy Spitzer officiating.  Interment   will be at Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney, WV.   Even though Irene loved flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in her honor to Branch Mt. Cemetery, % Ella Mae Frye, 2nd St., Romney, WV 26757 or Ebenezer Cemetery, % of Wayne D. Cummins, HC 78 Box 6, Shanks, WV  26761.

 

SUSAN LORRAINE KIDWELL

Susan Lorraine Kidwell,  61,   of Romney, WV died January 14, 2011 at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.  She was born in Romney on January 20, 1949, the  daughter of the late Elwood Ferman and Anna Virginia (Cox) Lewis.  Sue was also preceded in death by three sisters: Verda M. Keister, Marva Lee Lewis and Mary Jean Hershey.

Sue is survived by her husband, Denzel U. Kidwell, one Daughter:  Tammy Virginia Bourelle, Augusta, WV; one  Brother:  Eddie T. Lewis and fiancée, Janet Cheshire, Romney, WV and one  Granddaughter:  Christina L. Bourelle, Augusta, WV.

The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Monday, January 17, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.  The funeral service will be Tuesday, January 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Landis officiating.  Interment  will be at Branch Mt. Cemetery, Three Churches, WV

KATHLEEN YOLANDA WEHLAND

Kathleen Yolanda Wehland, 88, of Romney, WV,   died January 17, 2011 at the Hampshire Memorial  Long Term Care Center, Romney, WV.   Mrs. Wehland was born in Gaithersburg, MD on Oct. 13, 1922, the  daughter of the late John R. and Catherine G. (Grimm) Smith.  Besides her parents, Mrs. Wehland was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Pryor, one brother and one sister.

Mrs. Wehland retired in 1977 from Insurance and Trust, Bakersfield, CA after 25 years of service as supervisor and secretary.  She is survived by her 2nd husband, Laurence “Bob” V. Wehland; one  Daughter:  Shirley Grogg, Grover Beach, CA; two grandchildren:  Shelly Sweeton, Santa Barbara, CA and  Jerry Brigham, Fullerton, CA; five  sisters; two Step-sons:  Raymond Wehland, Manassas, VA and David Wehland and wife, Mary, Romney; and one  Step-daughter:  Gloria O’Donnell and husband, Ed, Ocean City, MD

Services were private.

ROBERT CONRAD MINTDROP, JR.

Robert Conrad Mintdrop, Jr., 48, of Stephens City, VA formerly of Romney, WV  died January 17, 2011 at the Blue Ridge Hospice, Winchester, VA.  Robert was born May 12, 1962 in Kansas City, KS, the  son of the late Robert C. and Linda Mae (Smoot) Mintdrop, Sr. 

Robert graduated from Hampshire High School, Class of 1980. He attended Potomac State College for 2 years and joined the Army serving in South Korea.  His interests included NASCAR, football, baseball and hunting.  He had been employed as supervisor of an auto parts manufacturer.  He is survived by one  Sister:  Cynthia “Cindy” Lynn Mintdrop-Coleman, Cedar Hill, MO; one Uncle:  Garland J. Smoot, Romney, WV; two  Aunts:  Peggy L. Smoot, Romney, WV, Donna Rae Israel and husband, Charles, Texas and two2 Cousins:  Trudy Israel Perry and Scott Israel

The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV on Friday, January 21, 2011 from 6-8 pm.  The funeral service will be Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home  with Rev. Shawn Perry officiating.  Interment  will be at Salem Cemetery, Slanesville, WV.  Memorials  may be made to the Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., #405, Winchester, VA  22601. 

BETTY W. MOORE

Betty W. Moore, 79,  of  Romney, WV   died January 20, 2011 at her residence.

Betty was born on July 6, 1931 in Romney, the  daughter of the late Roy E. and Janet C. (Carter) Speelman.  She was preceded in death by her husband,  EOC Dale Moore US Navy Retired, July 28, 2009 and one brother, Roy E. Speelman, Jr.

Betty was a graduate of Romney High School Class of  1949.  She  was an avid bowler, bowling locally on the Tuesday Morning Women’s League and the Wednesday Night Women’s League.  In 1987 she won the National Senior Championship WIBC in New York.  A highlight of Betty’s bowling experience was bowling in a Pro-Am Tournament with Dick Weber and beating him.

Betty is survived by:  one son:  Sidney Moore and wife, Linda, Romney, WV; one  Grandson:  Joshua Moore, Fairmont, WV; one  Step granddaughter:  Ronda Hipp and husband, Donald, Nashville, TN and two  Sisters-in-law:  Mary Louise Walters, Queenstown, MD and Peggy Speelman, Fayette, PA

The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV  on Sunday, January 23, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.  The funeral service will be at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Monday, January 24, at 1:00 pm  with  Rev. Robert Jeffreys officiating.  Interment  will be at Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, WV

BETTY W. MOORE

Dorothy Marie Michael, 63, of Romney, WV  died Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the WMHS, Cumberland, MD.  Mrs. Michael was born on April 14, 1947 in Hampshire County, WV, the   daughter of the late Willie Edward and Bessie L (Day) Arnold. In addition to her parents, one sister, Agnes Ullery preceded her in death. 

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Bobby Allen Michael; two  Daughters:  Linda M. Elliott, and significant other, Micheal Chamberlain, Cumberland, MD and  Cindy L. Michael, Romney,  WV; three  Brothers:  Ralph Arnold, Augusta, WV, Willie E. “Buck” Arnold, Three Churches, WV, and  Russell Arnold, Points, WV; four 4 Sisters:  Virginia Watson and Martha Barnes both of Points, WV,  Frances Allen and  Hazel Michael,  both of Three Churches, WV;  six  Grandchildren:  Joshua Ayers, Zachery Elliott, Michael Elliott, Gaige Chamberlain, Madison Terrazas and Maria Terrazas.

The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV  on Tuesday, January 25, 2010 from 6-8 pm.   At her request her body will be cremated.

THERESA JEAN HAINES

Theresa Jean Haines, 58, of Ft. Ashby, WV,  died Monday, January 31, 2011 at the WMHS, Cumberland, MD.   Mrs. Haines was born on November 13, 1952 in Cumberland, MD, the daughter of Robert Sloan and Ruth Annabelle (Poling) Peer, Sr. of Ridgeley, WV.  Theresa was preceded in death  by her first husband, Danny Burns; and one brother, Robert S. Peer, Jr.

Mrs. Haines was a member of the First Baptist Church, Keyser, WV and a graduate of Ridgeley High School, Ridgeley, WV.  In addition to her parents,  she is survived by: Her 2nd husband, Michael A. Haines, Sr.; one  Son:  Michael A. Haines, Jr., Ft. Ashby, WV; three  Daughters:  Christa M. Griffith, Ridgeley, WV, Danielle Burns, Ft. Ashby, WV and Kimberly Haines, Cumberland, MD; one  Brother:  David O. Peer, Ridgeley, WV; one Sister:  Eva Mace, Cumberland, MD; and six  Grandchildren:  Ashlee and Desiree Griffith; Michelle and Bryan Kidwell; and Trenton and Kayla Haines.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 from 11:00 am until time of service at 12:00 noon at the Shaffer Funeral Home.    The funeral service will be Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 at the Shaffer Funeral Home at 12:00 noon with Pastor Gordon Brubaker officiating.   Serving as Pall Bearers are “Tank” Charles Griffith, James Murphy, Michael A. Haines, Jr., Chuck Lee, David Kaiser, and Michael Miltenberger. Interment  will be at Springfield Hill Cemetery, Springfield, WV.
