KATHLEEN "KATHY" ALFREDA FINK

Kathleen “Kathy” Alfreda Fink,  70,  of Green Spring, WV,  passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family to be with Christ our Lord, Wednesday, August 24, 2011.  She was born on July 27, 1941 in Baltimore, MD, the  daughter of the late George and Catherine (Shuman) Holden, Sr.  Besides her parents “Kathy” was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Davis; two grandchildren, Brandy Davis and Joseph Golden; and one great grandchild, Anastasia Elliott.

“Kathy” was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Church and had known Jesus Christ as her Savior.  She retired in 2004 from Hampshire Manufacturing, Romney, WV;  was a devoted wife and mother and “Kathy”  was loved by all.

Surviving are her husband, WilliamWebster Fink, Green Spring, WV; two sons:  George “Georgie” Davis, III, Cresaptown, MD and  William “Bill” R. Fink and wife, Darla, Ft. Ashby, WV; four daughters:  Rose Davidson and husband, John, Sr., Short Gap, WV, Virginia Golden and husband, Brian, Clearville, PA,  Glenda Travitz and husband, Paul, Montana and Darlene Parsons and husband, Richard, Short Gap, WV; two brothers:  George Holden and wife, Jeanie, Westernport, MD and Melvin Holden, Baltimore, MD; one sister:  Mary Condella, Grantsville, MD;  12 Grandchildren:  Sherrie Golden, Bobby Sue Greise and husband, Christopher; Christina Snyder and husband, Scott; John Davidson, Jr. and wife, Jessica;  Amanda Davidson and fiancé Gary Welch; George Davis IV, Wesley Davis, Richard Parsons, Jr., Kenton Parsons, Taylor Fink, Kayla Fink, and Tristan Fink;  7 Great Grandchildren and 2 “on the way”.  “Kathy” was also blessed with two very special in-laws and friends, Glenn and Jeanann Fink and special friend, Shannon Hunt.  She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 27, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV.   Funeral services will be Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home,  with Pastor Jerry Eisenhower officiating. Interment will be at the Springfield Hill Cemetery, Springfield, WV.

 

GERALD IRVIN LARGENT

Gerald Irvin Largent,  75,  of Romney, WV,  died August 17, 2011 at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.  Gerald was born on February 4, 1936 in Three Churches, WV,  the son of  the late  Irvin Hensel and Myrtle Creola (Kidner) Largent.  In addition to his parents  he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Samantha Marie Grady.

Gerald began his career as a truck driver at the age of 16 and retired in 2009.  During this span of 59 years, he drove for Hill Top Fruit Market and Dennis Lupton Trucking.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian “Peggy” (Diehl) Largent, one  Son:  Gerald David Largent, Romney, WV; one  Daughter:  Andrea Katherine (Largent) Grady, Stephenson, VA; two Brothers:  Robert F. Largent and wife, Clara and James W. Largent and wife, Arbutus, Romney, WV; two  Grandchildren:  Katelin Elizabeth Benner, Winchester, VA and Patrick Garrett Benner, Stephenson, VA; and one  Great Grandson:  Brenton Gerald Alexander, Winchester, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Sunday, August 21, 2011  from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.  The funeral service will be Monday, August 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home  with Dr. Roy Knight officiating.  Interment  will be at the Branch Mt. Methodist Cemetery, Three Churches, WV.

 

JOHN MONROE AVERY

John Monroe Avery,  79,  of Romney, WV,  died on August 17, 2011 at the VA Center, Martinsburg, WV.   Mr. Avery was born on January 26, l932 in Clayton County, GA, the   son of the late David Monroe and Frances Ola Washington Avery.  He  retired from the U.S. Navy as Chief Hospital Medical Corpsman in 1968;  a realtor for Century 21 for 20 years and owned and operated the Pioneer Restaurant for 14 years.  Mr. Avery was a member of the American Legion Hampshire Post 91, the VFW Wappocomo Post 1101, the Loyal Order of the Moose #1371 and the Lions Club all of Romney.

Surviving are his  wife of 31 years,  Gladys Nichols Avery, Romney, WV; step-mother, Anne Avery, Atlanta, GA; two  Sons:  John M. Avery, Jr., Atlanta, GA and David W. Avery, Atlanta, GA; two  Daughters:  Amy Y. Anderson, Union City,GA and Paula Pope, Kirby, WV; one Brother:  Bill Wayne Avery, Daphne, AL; three  Sisters:  Ola Mae Dover, Jonesboro, GA. Briness Kennedy, Jonesboro, GA and Jean Roberts, Warm Springs, GA; nine  Grandchildren and nine Great Grandchildren 

At Mr. Avery’s request his body was cremated and interment will be at a later date.   Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV   25403.

LAWRENCE RUSSELL "BUDDY" SMITH

Lawrence “Buddy” Russell Smith,  80,  of Romney, WV,  died on August 12, 2011 at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.   “Buddy”  was born on January 5, 1930 in Romney, WV, the son of the late Ulysses and Helen Smith Denmark.    Besides his parents “Buddy” was also preceded in death by his wife, Goldie (Taylor) Smith.

A Celebration of Life Service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 14 at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, N. High St., Romney, WV, with Dr. Roy Knight officiating..   At his “standing room only” memorial service many people spoke of  “Buddy’s” kind and caring spirit.  He will be missed by family and friends.

He is survived by one Son:  Joseph Henry Smith and  one daughter: Sandra Smith Russell both of Winchester, VA; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Interment  was  Friday, August 19 at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, Romney, WV.

 

RAY EMERSON MILLER

Ray Emerson Miller, 55, of Green Spring, WV was ushered into heaven from his home on August 8, 2011.  He was born on October 8, 1955 in Berkeley Springs, WV to the late Donald and Reba Miller of Short Gap, WV.  Ray was also preceded in death by his sister, Kathy D. Clark of Everett, PA.  In addition to being an extraordinary man of God, Ray was an amazing husband to his beloved wife, Brenda S. Frye, of 37 years; a loving father to his son, Joshua Ray Miller, and his wife, Raven A. Miller of Springfield, WV and to his sweet daughter, Jody Leigh Ansel, and her husband, John M. Ansel, of Springfield, WV; a playful “Paps” to his special grandsons, Tanner Gracen Ansel and Lincoln Asay Miller; a wonderful son-in-law to his “Sunshine”, Mary D. Frye, of Green Spring, WV; a devoted brother to Ronald and Judy Miller of Shermansdale, PA and Marian K. Clark of Short Gap, WV; a loyal brother-in-law to Tim and Lisa Frye of Springfield, WV and Robert “Pete” and Gail Nixon of Springfield, WV; as well as an incredible uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend to many.

Ray was a 1973 graduate of Fort Ashby High School.  He was a self-employed business owner of Miller’s Carpet and Flooring Installation.  He was a master mason of the Clinton Lodge No. 86 in Romney, WV.  Ray was an avid outdoorsman and was a member of the High Ridge Hunting Club.  He served as a deacon and greeter for the Springfield Assembly of God church.  He took great pride in serving the Lord by using his many gifts and talents to further the Kingdom of God.
Friends and family will be received at the new Springfield Assembly of God church on Thursday, August 11, 2011 between the hours of two to four and six to eight, and Friday, August 12, 2011 from eleven to noon.  His “Celebration of Life” service will also be held at the new Springfield Assembly of God church on Friday, August 12, 2011 at noon.  A graveside service will immediately follow at the Forest Glen Cemetery located in Green Spring, WV. All arrangements will be provided by Shaffer Funeral Home of Romney, WV. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to:
