WILLIAM "BILL" BLAINE EYE William “Bill” Blaine Eye, 74, of Romney, WV, died April 29, 2011 at his residence. “Bill” was born in Cumberland, MD on January 20, 1937, the son of the late William Marvin and Eleanor Beatrice (Walker) Eye. He was a graduate of Fort Ashby High School; and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After retiring from Kelly Springfield Tire Company, Cumberland in l987 with 28 years of service “Bill” was employed at the WV Schools for the Deaf and Blind in security retiring with 20 years of service. “Bill” is survived by his wife of 49 years, Doris Elaine (Merritt) Eye; three Daughters: Mitzi E. Voit and husband, Michael, Romney, WV, Lori A. Dawson and husband, Mark, Romney, WV, and Penne K. Clower and husband, Steve, Springfield, WV; one half sister: Betty Lou Hall, Nevada; seven Grandchildren: Jordan, Trey and Laken Dawson, Heather and husband Nick Hock, Colton, Jackson and Gabrielle Clower and one Great Granddaughter: Kloee Hock. The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney on Sunday, May 1, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Monday, May 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kenneth Caplinger officiating. Friends will be received at the church 1 hour prior to service. Serving as pall bearers are: Steve Clower, Colton Clower, Mark Dawson, Jordan Dawson, Ralph Vance, and Nick Hock. KALOB JAY LEWIS-AYERS Kalob Jay Lewis-Ayers, 17, of Romney, WV, died April 28, 2011 at his residence. Kalob was a Junior at Hampshire High School. He was very interested in music and in creating original compositions. Kalob was also interested in creative writing, winning awards for his poetry. CHARLOTTE "SISSY" LORAINE BREWER Charlotte “Sissy” Loraine Brewer, 64, of Springfield, WV, died April 25, 2011 at her residence. JOHN G. CLOWER John G. Clower, 97, of Romney, WV, formerly of Fairmont, WV died April 17, 2011 at Hampshire Center, Romney. Mr. Clower was born on October 14, 1913 near Purgitsville, WV, the son of the late Hubert Osceola and Hettie Lafayette (Miller) Clower. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Rosalie Ann (Gibson) Clower, Feb. 4, 1993; four brothers, William Blair Clower, Eugene Osceola Clower, Ira Glenn Clower, and Hubert Lynn Clower and one sister, Margaret Magdaline Powers. John was a member of the Romney High School basketball team and the first student to graduate from Romney High School. John was employed for 40 years with Sell and Company headquartered in Cumberland, MD. John and Rosalie moved to Fairmont in 1966 and managed branch facilities of Sell and Company in Elkins and Fairmont, WV. John was a Charter Member of the Whitehall Lions Club near Fairmont. He was a life long supporter of West Virginia University and an avid fan of the Mountaineers. Surviving are: his 2nd wife of nine years, Evelyn Clower; one Son: Gary L. Clower and wife, Pat, Manakin-Sabot, VA; two Grandchildren: Jody Lynn Clower, Haydensville, VA and John G. Clower, Winston Salem, NC; and one sister: Winafred Maxine Clower, Romney, WV and one Brother: Kermit Paul Clower and wife, Maxine, LaVale, MD; five step-children: Bill Ice, Patty Waugh, Richard Ice, Jane Miller, and Judy McDowell; five Nephews: Paul Clower, Michael Clower, Roy Clower, Roger Clower and Eddie Powers and five nieces: Joanne Kramer, Donna Warner, Dinah Mitchell, Debbie Clower and Rita Spiker.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 from 6-8 pm at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV. A. PEARL KENNEY Audra Pearl Kenney, 89, of Monroe, MI, died April 15, 2011 in Monroe, MI. She was born in Green Spring, WV on May 1, l921, the daughter of the late Frank and Julia (Malone) Bean. Besides her parents, Mrs. Kenney was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Kenney in 1989. Surviving are four sons: Samuel Kenney, Monroe, MI, Paul Kenney, Ft. Smith, FL, Joseph Kenney, Jr. and wife, Valerie, Cumberland, MD and Jeff Kenney and wife, Donna, Monroe, MI; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV on Friday, April 22, 2011 from 11:00 am – 1:30 pm. VIRGINIA "GINNY" ANN LYONS Virginia “Ginny” Ann Lyons, 54, of Delray, WV, died April 17, 2011 at her residence. “Ginny” graduated from Hempfield High, Landisville, PA in the Class of 1974. She retired after 20 years of service as office manager at the American Heart Association in Baltimore, MD. She was currently employed as office manager at the Romney First United Methodist Church where she will be greatly missed. Surviving are her husband, Samuel Parker Lyons, Jr.; two sons: Thomas Lyons, Augusta, WV and Marcus Lyons, Princeton, WV; three Daughters: Leeanne Lynette Lucas, Delray, WV, Nichole Lyons, Augusta, WV and Holly Lyons, Friendsville, MD;
three Brothers: Michael Carman, York County, PA, Harry McComas Mummaw, Jr., Delray, WV, and Terry Lee Mummaw, York, PA; four Grandchildren: Frederick Franklin Reyes, Matthew Gauge Reyes, Madison Neff, and Lucas Ward. ELAINE DAY OTT Elaine (Day) Ott, 83, Romney, WV, passed away at Hampshire Memorial Hospital on April 12, 2011. She was born at home in Keyser, WV on October 17, 1927 to John Willis and Blanche Clara (Cosner) Day. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Paul Ott, and her only sibling, Mary Louise Day Householder. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ott Anderson, Romney, six grandchildren, Michael S. and Timothy R. Anderson and Marion A. Mich, all of Romney, Georgetta A.Hughes, Orland Park, IL, Elizabeth A. Podsiadlo, San Diego, CA, Matthew E. Anderson, Capon Bridge, WV, and 11 great grandchildren, Ben, Chris and Jeremy, Katie and Hayley, Nate, Amy, AJ and Kaitlyn, Betsy and Phoebe. While still in high school, Elaine started working at the B & O and worked part time as Weigh Master until 1963 when she earned her BA in Education from Shepherd. In 1989 she retired from education with after 22 years at Bloomington Elementary/Junior High School. In the 1950’s Elaine owned and operated a Newsstand in Keyser. She began selling World Book Encyclopedia when she went to college and became District Manager in this area. After World War 2, Elaine met her husband, Bobby, participating in competitive swing dancing. Through her life she played in the Ladies’ Softball League in Keyser, bowled duckpins and was an avid golfer and painter. She loved to fish and garden which led her to buying a home on the South Branch River below Springfield in 1976. She lost her home in the Flood of 1985 and because of this life altering experience she became a Reservist for FEMA and participated in disaster relief all over the USA and its territories in many capacities including Site Chief for nearly 20 years. Elaine was a great card player, attaining the rank of ACBL life master in bridge. She was an accredited bridge teacher and director for the ACBL and helped to organize ACBL bridge clubs in Keyser and Westernport, MD, and directed both games. She was a member of Soroptimist International and Grace United Methodist Church of Keyser. Interment will be Saturday, April 30th at 11am at St. Peter Cemetery in Westernport, Md. Friends and family will be received at Grace United Methodist Church that afternoon from 1 until 2pm. Memorial service will be at 2pm with the Rev. Roy Knight officiating. The family requests that memorials be made to the Romney Food Pantry. DICKSON W. PARSONS Dickson W. Parsons, 72, of Romney, WV, died Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. He was born in New Cumberland, WV on December 14, 1938, the son of the late Norman W. and Natalie (Ballantyne) Parsons. Besides his parents, Mr. Parsons was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Norman Parsons and one sister, Mary J. Williams. Mr. Parsons was raised in Morgantown, WV. He graduated from Morgantown High School, Class of 1951 and West Virginia University. Mr. Parsons served in the U. S. Army, the National Guard of West Virginia and the U.S. Air Force where he pursued his love of flying. He worked in the computer industry most of his life and upon retirement moved to Hampshire County in 1992. Mr. Parsons enjoyed woodworking and HAM Radio. He loved cooking and sports cars. While living in Marblehead, MA during the 70’s and 80’s he enjoyed sailing. It will be in Marblehead where his family will scatter his ashes in a private service. Mr. Parsons is survived by his companion Mary Ann Corbin and her sons, Clint, David and Eric; one Daughter, Pamela K. Parsons, Revere, MA; one Brother: Thomas Lynn Parsons, Little Rock, AK; one Half-Brother: Kenneth “Pat” K. Kessel, New Manchester, VA; one Half-Sister: Gretchen Lee Malloy, Bethesda, MD; and one Granddaughter: Jessica Parsons DOROTHY PEARL STARNES Dorothy Pearl Starnes, 75, of Romney, WV died Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney, WV. She was born in Romney, WV on October 14, 1935, the daughter of the late Daniel Elburn Hugh and Daisy Ellen Mae (Wilson) Kesner. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Lyle B. Buckley; survived by her 2nd husband, Glen Nickelson and preceded in death by her 3rd husband, Brady Eugene Starnes, Oct. 21, 2010. Four brothers also preceded her in death: Elburn “Bo” Kesner, Van Woodrow “Bobby” Kesner, James “Jimmy” Kesner and Benjamin “Benny” Kesner. Mrs. Starnes was employed at Kidwell’s Nursing Home and for several years at Kinney Shoe Corporation both of Romney. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by: two Sons: Michael F. Buckley, Sr., Shanks, WV, and Allen B. Buckley and wife, Gracie, Shanks, WV; one Daughter: Jeannie Davidson and husband, Babe, Romney, WV; five Brothers: Curtis Kesner, Henry Allen Kesner, Eugene Kesner, Melvin Kesner and Garland Kesner all of Romney, WV; five Sisters: Ruth Grapes, Peggy Mayhew, Kay Nickelson, Lucy Whetzel all of Romney and Alwilda Oates of Shanks, WV; seven Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
