MARVIN J. "TUBBY" GANOE

Marvin J. “Tubby” Ganoe, age 81, of Romney, WV left this earth to be with his Father in Heaven on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Long Term Care Center, Romney. WV. He was born on November 7, 1927 in Romney, WV, the  son of the late Ervin Edward and Audra May (Wise) Ganoe. Marvin was a life member of the VFW Wappocomo Post 1101 and the Loyal Order of Moose 1371 both of Romney and a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Navy.  He retired in 1988 after 22 years of service with the West Virginia Department of Highways.  He was later employed by Malick Parts, Romney. He is survived by his wife,  Ganette M. Ganoe, Romney, WV; three  Daughters:  Amber N. Ganoe, Romney; Kathy S. Smith and husband, Terry, Parkersburg, WV; and Debra J. Snyder and husband, Randall, Harisville, WV; one  Step-daughter:  Andrea M. Nickleson and husband, Shane, Augusta, WV; three  Grandsons:  Eli G. Smith, Nicholas Snyder and Noah Snyder;  two Granddaughters:  Summer R. Smith and Morgan L. Smith; two Step-Granddaughters: Alexis M. and Brittany M. Nickleson, Augusta, WV; three  Brothers:  Paul Ganoe, and wife, Jean, and Eston Ganoe and wife, Jean both of Savage, MD and Edward L. Ganoe and wife, Rosemarie of Romney, WV; three  Sisters:  Alma Croston, Savage, MD,  Elva Petty of Louisville, Kentucky and Patsy Michael and husband, Raymond, Inverness, Florida  and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Romney Christian Church, Romney, WV. Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney, WV.

CHARLES JUNIOR "JACK" HASLACKER

Charles Junior  “Jack” Haslacker,  82,  of Romney, WV died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Willow Tree Manor, Charles Town, WV.   He was born on March 10, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan the son of the late Charles O. and Bertie Katherine (Mayhew) Haslacker. TH:  Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Virginia (Ganoe) Haslacker on June 2, 1995; one sister, Maxine Creech and one brother Elvin L. Haslacker. Mr. Haslacker was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Army.  He retired from Ewers Orchard where he worked most of his active life.  He is survived by three  brothers: James E. Haslacker, Romney, WV; Herman R. Haslacker, El Paso, Texas;  and Raymond “Fred” Haslacker, Shanks, WV; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney on Thursday, May 28, 2009 from 6-8 p.m.   The funeral service will be Friday, May 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV. with Pastor James Ward officiating. Pallbearers will be:  Gary Bowman, Brent Bowman, Harold Belt, Melvin Belt, Roger Haslacker, and J. R. Benson.  Interment  will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney.  Military graveside rites will be accorded by veterans' organizations of Hampshire County, WV. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made through the family to help with expenses or to a charity of choice.

GOLDIE IRENE MONGOLD

Goldie Irene Mongold,  84,   of Romney, WV  died on May 16, 2009 at Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney, WV. She was born in Hardy County, WV on May 11, 1925, the  daughter of the late John Judy and Mary Elizabeth (Ketterman) Ratliffe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. “Bud” Mongold.  Mrs. Mongold lived in Romney for 50 years coming from Hardy County.  She was employed by the Romney Orchards Corporation during the 70's and 80's.  Mrs. Mongold enjoyed cooking, gardening and first and foremost raising her family. She is survived by: two Sons:  Wayne J. Mongold, Woodstock, VA and Vernon H. Mongold, Romney,WV; one  Sister:  Beatrice Kite, Petersburg, WV; three grandchildren:  Bradley W. Mongold, Jeremy V. Mongold, and Zachary E. Mongold. The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney on Monday  May 18, 2009 from 6-8 p.m.  A graveside service at the Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, WV will be  on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ron Diciolla officiating.  Interment  will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, WV. Memorials may be made to the Romney Volunteer Fire Department or the Romney Rescue Squad.

MARY COMBS

Mary Combs, 94,  of Romney, WV, died Monday, May 11, 2009 at Greenfield Senior Living, Berryville, VA.  She was born in Augusta, WV on March 20, 1915, the  daughter of the late James Newton and Blanche Rose (Haines) Haines. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her  husband, Garland B. Combs who died December 28, 1944 while on active duty during WWII in Germany; one grandson, Donald B. “Tripp” Combs III; one brother, Russell Robert Haines  and three sisters, Una Viola “Rae” Combs, Thelma “Tootsie” Margaret Beery, and Gladys Maxine Haines. Mary was the last member of her immediate family.  She was a member of the Romney First United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Hampshire Post 91, and a past member of the GFWC of Romney.  Mary had been employed as a cashier at the A & P Company in Romney until her retirement in 1980. She is survived by one son: Donald B. Combs, and wife, Kay-Jo of Winchester, VA; two  Grandchildren:  D. B. Combs, II, and wife, Barbara, Ashburn, VA and  Cristi Kimmel Combs, and husband, Mike , Ashburn, VA; two  Great Grandchildren:  Wills Combs and Andrew Combs, Ashburn, VA; two Step Great Grandchildren, Kristen Matthews, Charlottesville and Megan Kimmel, Dallas, Texas;  nieces Judi Peacock, Diana Beery and Melinda Haines all of Romney, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the Shaffer Funeral Home from 1:00 – 2:00 pm.  The funeral will be Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the Shaffer Funeral Home at 2:00 pm with Dr. Roy Knight officiating.  Pallbearers will be D.B. Combs, II, Wills Combs, Andrew Combs, Michael Kimmel, Fred Wagoner, and Gary Peacock.  Interment  will be in the Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, WV. Memorials  may be made to the Romney First United Methodist Church,  49 N. High St., Romney, WV  26757

MINNIE MARIE LARGENT

Minnie Marie Largent, 82,  of Winchester, VA formerly of Levels, WV,  died May 5, 2009  in Winchester, VA . She was born September 8, 1926 in Green Spring, WV, the daughter of the late John Wesley and Mae (Knisley) Shanholtz. Preceding her in death were her husband, Wilson Largent. April 29, 1995 and one brother, Wesley Shanholtz. Mrs. Largent was a graduate of Romney High School Class of 1944 and attended Catherman's Business School, Cumberland, MD.  She lived in Levels most of her life.  She was a member of the Forest Glen United Methodist Church, Green Spring, WV and attended the Levels United Methodist Church. She is survived by two Sons:  Randall Wilson Largent, and wife, Dorothy, Wiley Ford, WV and Jerry Robert Largent, Purgitsville, WV; two  Daughters:  Shirley Ann Getts, and husband, Monty and Florence Marie Newlin, and husband, Charles  all of Winchester, VA;  four  Sisters:  Annabel Jones, Florida,  Bonnie Combs, Indiana,  Susie Hott, Green Spring, WV,  Laura J. Cannon, Montrose, WV; seven  Grandchildren, six Great Grandchildren and one  Great Great Grandson. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney.  There will be no visitation or service on Saturday.  The funeral service will be Sunday, May 10,  at 3:00 pm at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV with Dr. Roy Knight officiating.  Interment will be in Forest Glen Cemetery, Green Spring, WV
