230 East maiN STREETJuly 2009 Obituaries VERDA M. KEISTER Verda M. Keister, 65, of Romney, WV died Friday, July 3, 2009 at her residence. She was born on May 18, 1944 in Romney, WV, the daughter of the late Elwood Ferman and Anna Virginia (Cox) Lewis. In addition to her parents, Verda was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Keister, two sisters, Mary Jean Hershey and Marva Lee Lewis. She was a graduate of Romney High School, Class of 1962. She attended Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, Purgitsville and enjoyed bingo and animals. She is survived by four Sons: David L. Wagoner, and wife Susan, Winchester, VA, Richard E. Wagoner, High View, WV, Nathan A. and Daniel R. Johnson, Romney, WV; four Step-Children: Rob, Steve and Jeff Keister , Romney and Debbie Rexrode, Charlottesville, VA; one brother: Eddie T. Lewis , Romney, WV; one Sister: Susan L. Kidwell, Romney, WV and three Grandchildren: Brannon Wagoner, Cooper Johnson, and Joey Johnson. A memorial service will be held at a later date. JOHN A. "MOOCH" MONGOLD John A. “Mooch” Mongold, 89, of Romney, WV died Saturday, July 4, 2009 at the Hampshire Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Center, Romney, WV. He was born on June 11, 1920 in Durgon, WV, the son of the late Joseph Henry and Etta E. (Ours) Mongold. He was preceded in death by his wife Mabel (Buckley) Mongold, four brothers: William Franklin Mongold, Edward H. Mongold, Omer Victor Mongold and Joseph E. Mongold; and one sister: Mary Elizabeth “Aunt Molly” Mayhew. “Mooch” was a member of the Romney Presbyterian Church, a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army where he was awarded two Bronze Stars, a member of the Romney Volunteer Fire Department, the American Legion Hampshire Post 91 and a life member of the VFW Wappocomo Post 1101. He loved hunting and fishing and was a charter member of Buck's Hunting Club, River Road, Romney. “Mooch” was a mechanic at Pancake Chevrolet having retired after 45 years of service. He is survived by two daughters: Loretta Mongold, Romney, WV and Betty Jo Robertson and husband, Rick, Points, WV, and Robert V.”Bobby” Mongold, Green Spring, WV; one sister: Agnes Mapes; three Grandchildren and seven Great Grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 from 7-9 pm. A graveside service will be Thursday, July 9, at 11:00 AM at the St. Luke Cemetery, River Road, Romney with Pastor Ron DiCiolla officiating. Interment will be in St. Luke Cemetery where Military graveside rites will be accorded by the veterans' organizations of Hampshire County. ROBERT "BOB" EUGENE PARSONS Robert “Bob” Eugene Parsons, 67, of Springfield, WV passed away Friday, July 10, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness. He was born June 8, 1942, the eldest son of the late Eugene W. and Eva Frances (Taylor) Parsons. He was also preceded in death by a son, Steven Pownell and one brother, Paul Blue Parsons. Bob was a graduate of Romney High School, Class of 1961. He was a block and brick mason having retired after 35 years of service. Bob was an honorary member of the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department. Bob is survived by his wife, companion and caretaker of 43 years, Agnes J. (Wagoner) Parsons; two Sons: Bobby Parsons and wife, Sherry, and Dale Parsons and wife, Renee all of Springfield, WV; his grandchildren who were the absolute light of his life and to which he would go to any length of love for their happiness and safety: Megan Parsons, Ft. Meyers, FL, Carissa and Case Parsons, Springfield, WV, Christy Kauffman , Romney, WV and Justin Judy, Springfield, WV; one great grandchild, Chloe Kauffman, Romney, WV; one Brother: Eddie Parsons and wife, Carol, Springfield, WV and two Sisters: Hannah Miller, Laurel, MD and Sue Jane Montoya, and husband, Rudy, California; and numerous nieces and nephews. CODY JOE RAINES Cody Joe Raines, 18, of Romney, WV died Thursday, July 16, 2009 from an automobile accident. Cody was born January 12, 1991 in Petersburg, WV the son of Charles Barrick and his wife Amy, Keyser, WV and his mother: Melissa Raines Dickenson and her husband Frankie, Romney, WV. Cody enlisted in the Army in June of 2008, attended boot camp the summer of 2008, and graduated from Hampshire High School Class of 2009. He was scheduled to leave August 10th to go to Ft. Leonard-Wood Missouri to begin his career as a military policeman. Cody lived his entire life in Romney and enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and sports, and especially loved time spent with family and friends. He is survived by his parents; Grandparents: Mr. & Mrs. William Mowery, Romney, WV, Mr. & Mrs. Owen Stanley, Keyser, WV and Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Barrick, Shinnston, WV; Great-grandmother: Hazel Corbin; he was the brother of: Jordan Lannon, and Camryn Barrick, Keyser, WV and Alexis Raines, Romney, WV; he was the nephew of Joe Barrick, Hagerstown, MD, Anna Raines and Hunter Dickenson, Romney, WV and two cousins: Alissa and Hunter Campbell, Romney, WV. Milleson, 69, of Springfield, WV passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009 as the result of an accident. She was born October 7, 1939 in Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Roy and Luceal (Kirby) Erwin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Silas C. Milleson and three brothers, Roger, Bruce and Dennis Erwin. Nannette graduated from Poteau High School in l957 located in Poteau, Oklahoma. She then went on to Oklahoma City University where she obtained a bachelor degree in Sociology in l961. Nannette owned and managed Milleson's Walnut Grove Campground, Inc. along the South Branch River in Springfield. Nannette loved people. She was a very selfless person who helped others and if she ever met a stranger, they became an acquaintance and usually a friend very quickly. She was very active in the Springfield United Methodist Church where she played the organ and participated in the choir for many years. She was a charter member of the Springfield Volunteer Rescue Squad and was active in numerous other volunteer organizations and activities. Most recently she served on the Hospice of the Panhandle Board of Directors. Nannette is survived by : one Son: Silas Roy Milleson and wife, Jeanne, Springfield, WV; one daughter: Sharon K. Ritz and husband, Tom, Nashville, Arkansas; six Grandchildren whom she adored: Bethany, Benjamin and Baxter Ritz; and Molly, Maryanna and Meredith Milleson. She is also survived by three nephews: Greg Erwin and wife, Bobbi, Tulsa, Ok, Jeff Erwin, Amarillo, TX; and William J. Milleson, Sr. and wife, Vickie, Springfield, WV; two nieces: Candi McConald and husband, Curtis, McDonough, GA and Mary French Barbe and husband, John, Romney, WV. Nannette also leaves behind several great nieces, great nephews and many close friends whom she cared about deeply. DALE MOORE Dale Moore, 78, of Romney, WV died Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney. He was born in Keyser, WV on November 21, 1930, the son of the late James William and Frances Mae (Dixon) Moore. Mr. Moore was preceded in death by three brothers: Jesse D. Moore, James W. Moore, and Robert L. Moore and three sisters: Frances E. Moore, Helen Dunn, and Audrey M. Treutle. Mr. Moore graduated from Romney High School, Class of l949. He joined the Navy (Seabees) in 1952. His duty stations included: PWD Kwajalein M.I., ACB-1 Coranado, Calif., Nas Moffett Field, Calif., NMCB *9, Nausuppact, Taipei, Nausuppact Dawang, R.U.N., USN Support Unit Clarksville, Tenn., Nas Kingsville, Texas, Nausuppact, Dawang, R.U.N., PWD Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, CBU 403 Annapolis, MD, and in 1978 retired to Romney after 24 years of military service. In Romney, Mr. Moore managed a low income housing complex and was a member of the Romney Town Council for several years. He was member of the Romney First United Methodist Church, the VFW Wappocomo Post 1101, the American Legion, Hampshire Post 91, FRA, the Clinton Lodge #86 A.F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife: Betty (Speelman) Moore; one Son: Sidney Moore and wife, Linda, Romney, WV; one Sister: Mary Louise Walters, Queenstown, MD; one Grandson: Joshua Moore, Fairmont, WV, and one Step granddaughter: Ronda Hipp and husband, Donald, Nashville, TN. ANNA "ENE" ISABELLA NIXON Anna “Ene” Isabella Nixon, 76, of Green Spring, WV died at her residence on July 31, 2009. She was born on March 26, 1933 in Green Spring, WV, the daughter of the late Russell Earl and Beulah (Dayton) Steward. Mrs. Nixon was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur F. Nixon; two brothers: Robert Steward and John “Jock” Steward; and two sisters: Virginia Smith and Thelma Haines. She attended the Green Spring Assembly of God Church and was a faithful volunteer in the Green Spring community. She is survived by one daughter: Kim Lambert and husband, Tommy, Green Spring, WV; one brother-in-law: Donnie Burton and wife, Faye, Cumberland, MD; three Grandchildren: Heather Davis and husband, Chad, Greg Foley, Jr. and wife, Elissa, and Wilbur Foley and fiancee, Alicia Fields; five Great Grandchildren: Kyla Martin, Hunter Foley, Caden Davis, Kaitlynn Foley, and Abby Davis. ALEXANDER "SKEETER" WOODRING BARNES Alexander “Skeeter” Woodring Barnes, 76, of Romney, WV, died July 28, 2009 at his residence. He was born on December 4, 1932 in Hampshire County, WV, the son of the late Albert and Neva (Blackburn) Barnes and preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Barnes and one grandson, Tommy Barnes, Jr. Mr. Barnes is survived by: his wife, Hilda L. (Haines) Barnes; three sons: Eddie W. Barnes and wife, Denise, Tampa, FL, Larry J. Barnes, Washington and Tommy W. Barnes and wife, Sharon, Romney, WV; three Daughters: Janet M. CLARA BELLE WRIGHT Clara Belle Wright, 84, of Romney, WV died July 29, 2009 at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. She was born on September 27, l924 in Gilmore County, WV, the daughter of the late Russell Guy and Tressie Bernice (Edwards) Ellison. Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her husband, Gail W. Wright, Sr., two sons: Gail W. Wright, Jr. and Brent Wright; two brothers: Bill and Dick and two sisters: Rose and Pauline. Mrs. Wright was employed many years at Mt. Top Truck Stop, Romney, WV. After retirement, she enjoyed making quilts and crafts for her family and friends. She is survived by: four Sons: Roger D. Wright, Robert Jack Wright, and David Lee Wright all of Newcomerstown, Ohio and Russ G. Wright of Grafton, Ohio; three Daughters: Sue W. Everett, Romney, WV, Ann W. Berg, Petersburg, WV and Judy K. Wright, Elyria, Ohio; one Brother: Arden Ellison, Ohio; one Sister: Vera Watts, Rittman, Ohio; 22 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
