BARBARA M. WELLS

Barbara M. Wells, 66, of Romney, WV  died Sunday, February 1, 2009  at home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with lung cancer.  She was born on September 12, 1942 in Hartford, CT, the daughter of the late Raymond F. and Anna H. (Harrington) Hallowell, Sr.  Mrs. Wells was preceded in death by one brother Raymond F. Hallowell, Jr.  Barbara retired from Romney Florist where she was employed for many years as a floral designer.  In the 1980’s she was employed by the Hampshire County Board of Education as a transportation /special education aid.  Prior to that she was a full time wife and mother.   Barbara was an EMT and a charter member of the Romney Resque Squad.  Other hobbies she enjoyed were reading and flower gardening.  She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Stanley A. Wells; three  Daughters:  Jeanne Marie Milleson and husband, Roy, Springfield, WV, Barbara Allyn Spaid and husband, Wendell, Romney, WV, Cecelia Eileen Stone, Romney, WV; one  Sister:  Ruth A. Bortolan, South Windsor, CT; five  Grandchildren:  Samantha Spaid, Bryan Spaid, Molly Milleson, Maryanna Milleson, and Meredith Milleson. The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.  The funeral service will be Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney. The family requests that memorials be made to the Hampshire County Relay for Life, FNB , PO Box 1937, Romney, WV 26757.

KEVIN "SPANKY" SCOTT HAGGERTY

Kevin “Spanky” Scott Haggerty, 35,  of Burlington, WV  died Wednesday, February 11, 2009 near Purgitsville, WV as the result of an automobile accident.  He was born in Cumberland, MD on January 29, 1974.  Kevin is survived by his father, William E. Haggerty;  his mother, Janet Elizabeth (Metz) Rinker, and stepfather, Ralph Rinker, Purgitsville, WV.  Kevin was preceded in death by one brother, William. Kevin graduated from Westmar High School, Lonaconing, MD Class of l993.  He was currently employed at Pilgrim’s Pride, Moorefield, WV where he had worked for the last 13 years.  Kevin loved to fish with his children and his late grandfather, Leslie A. Metz. Kevin is also survived by his wife:  Melissa M. (Ahern) Haggerty, Swanton, MD, one Son:  Cody Scott Haggerty, Swanton, MD, two  Daughters:  Kori Elizabeth Haggerty and Erin Faith Haggerty, Swanton, MD; Maternal grandmother:  Alice L. Metz, Westernport, MD, one  Brother:  John L. Haggerty and wife, Tina, York, PA, two  Sisters:  Kimberly S. Kinnie, and husband, Jerry, Augusta, WV, and Tina L. Cook, Martinsburg, WV, three  nephews and two nieces. The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney on Saturday, February 14 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m., with Rev.  Dan Biser officiating.  Interment  will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills, MD.

JOHN RICHARD TIMBROOK

John Richard Timbrook, 82,  of Romney, WV,  died Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the Long Term Care Center, Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney, WV. John was born on May 29, 1926 in Washington, D. C., the son of the late Sloan Hetzel and Fern (Peer) Timbrook.  He was preceded in death by one son, William Sloan Timbrook, Aug. 13, l966.   John was a graduate of Romney High School, Class of l943.  He served as a Corporal in the U. S. Army during WWII as part of the Occupation Army in Vienna, Austria.  He was a member of the American Legion Hampshire Post #91, Romney, WV.   John was employed as a computer technician by Western Union for 25 years.  After retirement he continued working for Contel for 2 ½ years until the Romney facility closed. John was an Elder of the Romney Presbyterian Church and a trustee at Old Bethel Church and Cemetery for 32 years.  John was Past Master and past secretary of Clinton Lodge #86 A.F. & A. M.;  a member of the Scottish Rite Masons and the Ali Ghan Shrine both of Cumberland, MD.  And  was Past Worthy Patron of  the Order of Eastern Star, Romney Chapter #84.   John was a 57 year member of AA. John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Juanita (Mulledy) Timbrook, one  Son:  Larry J. Timbrook and wife, Marion, Aylett, VA; three  Granddaughters:  Sharece Kincer and husband, Troy, Roanoke, VA, Sara Jane Hanson and husband, Andrew, Mechanicsville, VA, and D’Anna Carreras and husband, Joe, Mechanicsville, VA; one  Step-grandson:  Tyler Guyton, Aylett, VA; three  Great Granddaughters:  Elsie and Addi Kincer and Dakota Hanson and one  Great Grandson:  Isaac Thompson. The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.  and on Thursday from 12 noon  until time of burial at 1:00 p.m.   at Old Bethel Church Cemetery, Romney.  Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Hampshire County Veterans Honor Guard and Firing Squad. A celebration of life service will be held at the Romney Presbyterian  Church on Thursday, February 19 at 2:00 p.m. following the burial with Rev. Barbara Johnson officiating. The family requests that memorials be made to the Romney Food Pantry, %  Romney First United Methodist Church, 49 N. High St. Romney, WV 26757; the Old Bethel Cemetery, % Robert W. D. EFFIE MAE HOTT

Effie Mae Hott, 95, of Romney, WV  went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Long Term Care Unit of Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney, WV. She was born March 29, 1913 in Webster Springs, WV, the  daughter of the late Levi Hanson Dodrill and Vesta Jane Hosey Wyatt.  She was raised by the late Henry and Sylvia Likens. In addition to her parents,   she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Edward Hott, Sr. in November 1973; one daughter, Patty Sanchez; one son, Carl  Edward Hott, Jr.; three grandsons, Timothy Edward Ramas, Charles Edward Harman, and Brian  Allen Hott; two granddaughters, Debbie Hott and Deanna Harman Kuykendall; and several brothers and sisters. Mrs. Hott was a member of the United Church of the Brethren.  She is survived by one son, James "Jimmy" Hott, Gore, VA; five daughters, Delores Doman, Capon Bridge, WV,  Barbara Carol Baker, Slanesville, WV, Mary Ellen Alt, Moorefield, WV, Sally Jane Nazelrod, Romney, WV, and Susan Jean Zuniga, Shanks, WV, 15 grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren and four Great Great Grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, WV, on Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.  Funeral services will be at the funeral home on  Sunday, March 1, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Tom Rowan officiating.  Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney, WV
