December 2009 Obituaries FLORENCE MARIE CORBIN Florence Marie Corbin, 91, of Romney, WV, died at Dawn View Center, Ft. Ashby, WV on Friday, December 11, 2009. She was born on October 29, 1918 in Romney, WV, the daughter of the late James Joseph Clark and Delilah Marie (Haines) Hott. Mrs. Corbin was preceded in death by her husband, Riley W. Corbin; one son, DeHavilland “Skippy” N. Hott; one daughter, Monica Kay Maurer; and two granddaughters. Mrs. Corbin retired as a house parent from the WV School for the Deaf and Blind; was a life member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church; a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Hampshire Post 91 and the VFW Auxiliary, Wappocomo Post 1101 all of Romney, WV. She is survived by: two daughters: Peggy Jo Saville, Romney, WV and Lucinda Ray Kelly, Shallotte, North Carolina; one Sister: Frances Parsons, Springfield, WV; two grandsons and four granddaughters and eight great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Sunday, December 13, 2009 from 2-4 pm. A graveside service will be held Monday, December 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney, WV with Rev. Eric Bridges officiating. Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney, WV. ELIZABETH DEWITT WILLIAMS Elizabeth DeWitt Williams, 96, of Romney, WV died Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at the Hampshire Center, Romney, WV. She was born on August 28, 1913 in (Hoys) Accident, MD, the daughter of the late Arthur Edwin and Sadie (Friend) DeWitt. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, former WV State Senator and attorney, George H. Williams, Sr. in 1954; two brothers, Arthur and Robert DeWitt; and one sister, Margaret Flora. Mrs. Williams retired after 32 years of service as a teacher at the West Virginia School for the Deaf in Romney. She was a member and organist of the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Romney, WV for over 60 years. Mrs. Williams was the oldest member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #91, Romney, WV. She is survived by one son, George H. Williams, II, and one grandson, Tyler M. Williams, both of Romney and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 2:00 pm at the Shaffer Funeral Home with Father Michael Simon officiating. Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, WV. |
