MADELINE P. KESNER

Madeline P. Kesner, 80, of Green Spring, WV died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at her residence.  She was born on August 3, 1929  in Green Spring, WV the  daughter of the late Elzie Edward and Agnes P. (Hensrote) Leasure.  Mrs. Kesner was preceded in death by her husband,  Glen H. Kesner, Sr., in l983; and three brothers:  William Leasure, Daniel F. Leasure, and Edward M. Leasure.  She is survived by two sons:  Glen H. Kesner, Jr. and Charles E. Kesner, both of Green Spring, WV; one  Grandson:  Jason L. Kesner and wife, Susan, Green Spring, WV; three  Great Grandchildren:  Samantha and T. J. Houdersheldt and Emily Kesner.  All services will be private. 

HAZEL ANETA MULLEDY

Hazel Aneta Mulledy,  93. of Romney, WV  died on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Dawn View Center, Ft. Ashby, WV.   Ms. Mulledy was born on March 25, l916 in Romney, WV the  daughter of the late George and Bertha E. (Pownell) Mulledy.   She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Ralph Mulledy and one sister, Lillian Mulledy.Hazel was a member of the Branch Mt. United Methodist Church, Three Churches, WV and for many years served as a layperson.  In her early years she was employed by the WV School for the D& B and Ewers Orchard, Romney, WV. The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.    The funeral service will be on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 10:00 am at the Branch Mt. United Methodist Church, Three Churches, WV with Rev. Rita Beaman and Rev. Harold George officiating.  Interment  will be in Branch Mt. Cemetery, Three Churches, WV. Memorials   may be made to the Branch Mt. Cemetery, c/o Ella Mae Frye, 510 2nd St., Romney, WV  26757.

KATHERINE HARMISON HORNER

Katherine Harmison Horner, 96,  of Romney, WV,  died on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Hampshire Center where she had been a resident for the last year. Born December 8, l912 in Hampshire County  she was the daughter of the late Luther Chilton  and Kate (Millar) Harmison.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Professor Warren Horner in l964; her daughter, Betsy; three brothers:  Chilton, David and John Harmison and three sisters:  Lucy and Naomi Harmison and Ruth Parker. She was a graduate of Romney High School and Shepherd College and received an advanced degree in special education at Kent State College of Ohio.  She taught elementary education in Jefferson and Hampshire Counties before retiring from the WV School for the Deaf, Romney, WV.  She loved to reminisce about her early teaching days in a one room school house where she had to boat the Potomac River and board  with a local family each week. Katherine was a world traveler after her retirement and traveled to all seven continents, including trips to Antarctica and China.  Her favorite trip was to Australia and New Zealand.  She was member of many organizations including NRTA; French Huguenot Society; Daughters of the American Revolution  and the National Wildlife Foundation. Surviving are her twin brother, Carroll Harmison, Silver Spring, MD; one granddaughter; Martha Caldwell; Richmond Heights, Ohio; one grandson, Dr. John Lee Fleming, Pittsburgh, PA; her nieces:  Jean Harmison Skelley Toohey, Cresaptown, MD; Jerilyn Smith, Romney, WV; Kerry and Shannon Mowery, Wheelersburg, Ohio; Michelle Skelley, Cresaptown, MD; Marie Fields, Romney, WV; Emily Milleson, Springfield, WV; Susan Parker, Romney, WV; and her nephews:  Michael Skelley, Cresaptown, MD; Jeremy Smith, Canal Winchester, Ohio; Jamie Smith, Romney, WV; David Parker; Romney, WV; and her special little ones (her double and triple great nieces and nephews):  Madison, Alex and Ariel Smith; John David Parker; Payton Milleson and Morgan Fields.  And her special friend and traveling companion, her first cousin, Nancy Lewis, Winchester, VA. Her body was cremated per her request and a celebration of her wonderful Life will be held at a later date at which time her remains will be interred at St. Luke Cemetery, River Road beside her sister and brothers.
